Such a unique version. And better than any other I've heard. My favorite used to be DP 15 until I found this one. 1977-05-07 is another favorite.

6/29/76...for a version that is sweet and slow as molasses
10/11/77 has always been a favorite of mine...it is very bouncy

All good choices, to be sure. The one on the "Go to Nassau" release, from 5.15.80, however, has one of the best progressive solos of them all while still carrieing some of the emotional delivery of the older ones.IMHO.

Great call on 6/17/75. Probably my 2nd favorite. The Englishtown version is simply outstanding, one of my favorite performances, any tune.

5/07/77 is good as well, but 4/30 might have the best PeggyO from early/mid 1977.

Also note the 1/2 Step from above show. Possibly the best ever.

1977-05-07 also has the best half step imo. haven't heard 04-30 in awhile, i'll check it out again.

the Englishtown 1/2 Step doesn't match the 04/30 and 05/07 versions. I think you need the download series release to really get the 04/30 rendition though.

add 5/9 to the list of great spring '77 peggy-o's. my personal favorite, if just for jerry's soaring solo.

very sweet version, thanks, i really love Jerry's tone in '75 ... here're a couple that i think are pretty fine, particularly the '78...

I have to second Arbuthnot's vote for 4-16-78. I even remember exactly where I was when I first heard this version.

I was a senior in college and had been into the Dead for a couple years. I was walking through the library listening to this show on my walkman (remember those, kids?). Peggy-O was still a song that had yet to really grab my attention, but as I was listening to this version, I was blown away at the beauty of Jerry's solo. I actually had to sit down and just listen. That solo was and is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.

Since then I'm sure I've heard better versions of the song, but 4-16-78 is the version that started my love affair with the song, and it's still going strong today.

3-20-77 is awesome, as is 10-22-78 (on RT 1/4). And the studio outtake from 7-16-79 released as a bonus track on Go to Heaven has gorgeous tone.

I second the user name change to apacino.

I'm not a big fan of Peggy-O, but one performance I dig is from the Dijon show on 9/18/74. A well played, poignant and emotive rendition...

12-27-77 for SURE... the solo just rips and keeps climbing, climbing, climbing. You can hear in the verse right before the solo, jer means business

I was in the back center of Winterland for that Peg-O. And it was not the DEAD, officially, billing wise, but all the other bands of the hiatus yrs, and then they all came out afterward (an all girl band?; Mickey and friends I think?; K & D band; Kingfish; JG & friends--the DEAD). Bob Fried Memorial Boogie. Don't ask me who...Rasta? At least that's the way I recall it--that the tickets didn't say "DEAD" but just the other bands...?

I know, I know. The May 77 run gets a lot of press. Yet 5.11.77 does not. So I gave the entire show a good listen over the past year. yes, a year. Wow!

The Peggy-O and Brown Eyed are stand alone favorites of mine.
The interplay of Weir's tone and Garcia are just magical. Sit down and give em a good listen!
